Huntsbury

Private & sheltered hillside haven

This is a three level executive home that has extensive glazing that opens to decking on two levels. Glass balustrading ensures nothing obstructs the magnificent views. The entry level has an open plan kitchen and dining area opening to a generous informal lounge and playroom/television lounge. The home also accommodates a home theatre and office, laundry, four bedrooms and two bathrooms. A door from the ensuite leads out to a spa pool perched on a private deck.

A special design & build to stand the test of time.

When a Christchurch couple were considering getting married, they couldn’t think of a better venue to celebrate the occasion than their own stunning new home. As well as saving them a small fortune, it added a wow factor to their gala house- warming event. A fitting finale to well executed planning – and we all know how stressful wedding plans can be, let alone building a new home at the same time!

The surprise house-warming-come-wedding party was held just three months after Craig & his now-wife Fi had moved into their new hillside haven on Huntsbury Hill late 2015. The three-level executive home was a perfect party venue with spectacular views over the city cleverly positioned on it’s sheltered site and enriched with many more features than their former architecturally designed home on the same site built circa 1985.

Designed by O’Neil Architecture and built by DJ Hewitt Builders, the plaster and steel clad home was designed and built with a future-proof mindset to ensure that Craig, Fi, their daughter Jasmine (Jazzy) (and future family) will be enjoying their living environment for many years to come and stand the test of time on all fronts!

Darren O’Neil of O’Neil Architecture has recommended Daryl Hewitt of DJ Hewitt Builders for the build. “We visited a few open homes built by DJ Hewitt Builders and we were really impressed by the quality. Everyone we had spoken to only had good things to say about Daryl & his team. If he puts his name to the build, that’s his reputation at stake,” Craig says.

Another point of note Craig reflects on was how difficult it was to secure insurance in the Christchurch post-quake environment. He recalls Daryl provided invaluable assistance in getting the project underway. “Daryl contacted his broker and he leveraged contract works insurance for our replacement home,” says Craig. “It enabled us to move forward and make the best of a challenging situation.”

Having witnessed many friends and neighbours trying to manage their own rebuilds, Craig was especially impressed with his own project and by the comparative work ethic, reliability and availability of Daryl’s sub-contractors and team. “The DJ Hewitt management office and foreman provided outstanding project management throughout the build and we were kept in the loop which was a great comfort. The many sub-contractors and suppliers all worked seemlessly together to make things happen. Subbies arrived on time and the guys even worked on Saturday if necessary. It’s a big deal when you’re on a timeframe with a pending wedding!”
